Pierre Subleyras, November 25, 1699–May 28, 1749, was a French painter born in Saint-Gilles-du-Gard. He trained with his father and with Antoine Rivalz in Toulouse, then studied in Paris. He won the Prix de Rome in 1727 and moved to Rome in 1728 to study at the French Academy.

Subleyras painted altarpieces, portraits, mythological subjects, and scenes drawn from literature. His patrons included Pope Benedict XIV. His work for Saint Peter’s Basilica included The Mass of Saint Basil, a composition intended for translation into a mosaic altarpiece.

Subleyras remained based in Rome until his death in 1749. His paintings are held by the Musée du Louvre, the Paintings Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the National Gallery in London.
