Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis

Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, September 22, 1875 – April 10, 1911, was a Lithuanian painter, composer, and cultural worker. He studied piano and composition at the Warsaw Music Institute from 1894 to 1899 with Tadeusz Brzeziński, Antoni Sygietyński, and Zygmunt Noskowski, then composition and counterpoint at the Leipzig Conservatory with Carl Reinecke and Salomon Jadassohn.

Čiurlionis attended drawing classes in Warsaw in 1902–1903 and studied at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts from 1904 to 1906 under Kazimierz Stabrowski. He participated in the Lithuanian Art Society, helped organize Lithuanian art exhibitions, worked with its chorus, and was active in the cultural life of Vilnius and St Petersburg.

The principal collection of his work is held by M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art, Kaunas, Lithuania. Other works are held by the Lithuanian National Museum of Art, National Museum in Warsaw, and the State Russian Museum.
